What happens after asbestos is found in a NYC project?
Once asbestos-containing material is identified, the project team must determine what must be removed or contained, coordinate licensed abatement, satisfy DEP and DOL filing requirements, arrange air monitoring and clearance testing, and collect the documentation needed to restart construction. RemediateAsbestos.nyc coordinates each of those steps.
Can construction continue while asbestos is being removed?
It depends on the project scope, the location of the ACM, and the containment method used. In some cases work can continue in unaffected areas. In others the full work area must be cleared before construction resumes. We review the lab results and construction scope to determine what applies to your project.
What is the difference between ACP-5 and ACP-7?
ACP-5 is a certification that a survey was performed and no asbestos-containing material is present in the affected work area. ACP-7 is a project-detail form filed with NYC DEP when asbestos abatement work is required. If asbestos is found, ACP-5 cannot be issued. ACP-7 and the abatement process apply instead.
Does RemediateAsbestos.nyc perform the abatement work directly?
No. RemediateAsbestos.nyc coordinates asbestos abatement services through licensed asbestos abatement contractors and certified asbestos personnel. We manage the scope, filing, coordination, monitoring, and documentation. The regulated field work is performed by properly licensed parties.
What documents are needed after abatement is complete?
Typically: abatement completion records, air clearance reports, waste disposal documentation, DEP and DOL filing confirmations, and ACP-20 or ACP-21 forms from DEP. DOB requires these documents before releasing permits for the affected work area. We organize and deliver the full closeout package.
